The LOOPS ’15 conference
Basic Information
In 2015 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the publication of the final form of Albert Einstein’s General Relativity. The synthesis of General Relativity with Quantum Field Theory, coined Quantum Gravity, remains one of the most important unresolved problem of modern foundational physics. Loop Quantum Gravity is an approach to Quantum Gravity that implements all principles of Einstein’s legacy. Just as Einstein himself, who could rely on powerful techniques of mathematics such as Riemannian geometry, in Loop Quantum Gravity we rely on many mathematical foundations one of which is representation theory and the theory of invariants. One of the founding fathers of the theory of invariants was in fact Paul Gordan, a professor in mathematics in Erlangen and the PhD advisor of Emmy Noether. For physicists he is probably best known from the representation theory of angular momentum which gives rise to the famous Clebsch-Gordan coefficients.
The international conference Loops’15 is the 8th in a series of conferences that started in 2004 focussing on Loop Quantum Gravity. It is essentially financed by the Emerging Fields Initiative of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg that supports the Emerging Fields Project “Quantum Geometry”, which combines the expertises on representation theory in the mathematics department with those on Quantum Gravity in the physics department.
The official poster of the conference tries to reflect all of the afore mentioned aspects of the host location Erlangen in the centennial year 2015.

Conference fees
The early registration fee amounts to 200.00 EUR. Participants who have not paid the conference fee by 30.04.2015 at 23:59 (UTC +02:00) will have to pay the late registration fee of 250.00 EUR.
For students of the University Erlangen-Nürnberg, there is the possibility of registering on reduced fees (40.00 EUR), which entitle to attend plenary and panel sessions, as well as the corresponding coffee breaks.
The registration fee for the regular participants (including students of other universities) covers in addition to the coffee breaks also the reception and the conference banquet.
If you have already registered, please log in into your account to pay the fees (using the email address you gave at registration and the password we sent you).
Financial support
Regular participants have the possibility to apply for financial support. However, it is necessary that they prepay the early registration conference fee first. If you cannot even pay the conference fee, please contact us.

The Bronstein Prize Award Ceremony took place on Tue, 7 July, from 13:00 to 13:15.

Reception
There will be a reception at the conference venue on Mon, 6 July at 19:00. It is included in the conference fees for regular participants (but not in the reduced fees for FAU students).
Free afternoon
During the free afternoon on Wed, 8 July, we are organising the activities below. If you would like to participate to one of those, please register for it on the social events page of your participant account (log in using the email address you gave at registration and the password we sent you).
Soccer Tournament
(33 participants registered)
The by now legendary Loops Soccer Tournament will also take place this time! Depending on the number of participants, we will split into six to eight teams, have a group stage and then determine 2015’s champion in a knockout round.
Practical informations: We meet at 2 pm in the entrance hall of the Heinrich-Lades-Halle (beneath the reception desk). Then we will walk to the venue, which may take 30 minutes. There we split into teams (where we of course account for your wishes) and play football! The colours of your shirts don’t have to match, we have coloured vests.
Nuremberg or Bamberg City Tour
(respectively 29 participants and 11 participants registered)
Nuremberg and Bamberg are both located nearby Erlangen with their historic centres counting among the most beautiful of southern Germany. Lead by an english speaking guide you will explore the sights and learn about the city and its history. Both cities can be reached conveniently by train.

Practical informations: We meet at 1:40 pm in the entrance hall of the Heinrich-Lades-Halle (beneath the reception desk). We will then take you to the train station, from where we will go by train to Nuremberg or Bamberg. Group tickets will be bought by us.
In case you want to go there on your own: We meet the guides at 3 pm in front of the Lorenz Church in Nuremberg or in front of the Martin Church in Bamberg. The following maps show the way from the train stations to the meeting points:
If you want to participate, we ask you to contribute to the costs with 10 €, which have to be paid in the coffee break on Wednesday morning at the reception desk.

“The most beautiful of physical theories: Einstein’s general relativity” –

Einstein’s general relativity has changed our understanding of space and time and opened up an extraordinary richness of new phenomena: black holes, waves of space, the Big Bang, and more. In the talk a simple description of the theory will be given, and the current attempts to go beyond it will be described.

Travel Directions to Erlangen
By train
The conference venue (Heinrich-Lades-Halle, Rathausplatz 1, 91052 Erlangen) is located about 900 m away from the Erlangen Central train station.
The train station is served by high speed trains (ICE,IC) from all major German cities. Train schedules and connections can be found on the train schedule site of Deutsche Bahn, which also allows one to make reservations and book tickets.
By plane via Nuremberg airport
The closest international airport is Nuremberg airport, which is located about 20 km from Erlangen in the city of Nuremberg and has flights to many destinations in Europe and overseas. From the airport, you can take the underground line U2 to Nuremberg Central Station, which takes about 12 minutes. From Nuremberg Central station, there are frequent regional trains to Erlangen Central Station, which take about 15 to 25 minutes. Another option is to take a taxi. A taxi from Nuremberg airport or Nuremberg Central Station to Erlangen costs about 25 to 30 euros.
Regional trains between Nuremberg and Erlangen can be used with a regional ticket that is valid also in the underground. You can buy this ticket directly from the ticket machines in the underground station at the airport by selecting “Erlangen Hbf” as destination. Information about different types of tickets and fares can be found on the website of the local transport company VGN. By plane via Munich airport or Frankfurt airport
If there are no good connections from your departure airport to Nuremberg airport, another option is to fly to Munich airport or Frankfurt airport and take a train to Erlangen from there. The train travel times are about 2 h and 30 minutes from Munich airport and about 2 to 3 hours from Frankfurt airport.
From Frankfurt airport there are direct trains to Erlangen as well as trains which require a change in Nuremberg. From Munich airport, one first takes a regional train (S-Bahn) to Munich Central Station (München Hbf), which takes 40 to 45 minutes and runs every 15 minutes. From Munich Central Station to Erlangen Central Station, there are direct trains (2 hours) and trains with a change in Nuremberg (approximately 1 hour and a half).
